Serving others is an essential element of a life of discipleship. However, the Church has always affirmed that this should not simply take place well within the comfortable confines of life at the parish. Pope Francis certainly continues to echo and champion this call to go out as missionaries of the Gospel in service of others outside of our parish community:
"We would realize that missionary outreach is paradigmatic for all the Church’s activity." - Pope Francis (from his Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, paragraph 15)
"Immobility suits neither Christian witness nor the Church’s mission. The world needs Christians who allow themselves to be moved, who do not tire of walking on life’s streets, to bring the comforting Word of Jesus to everyone." - Pope Francis (from his Angelus Address on February 2, 2020)
Thus, we're not simply called to get involved in service and ministries solely within the walls of our church. We're called to take our faith outside of the walls of St. Paul's and to bring the servant heart and healing love of Christ to our families, our community, and throughout the world!
