We extend to you our deepest sympathy at this time of sorrow in the event of your loved one's death. You, your family, and your loved one are in our prayers at this difficult time. We want to do all we can to make this as easy as possible for you. If anyone on the staff at St. Paul's Church can be of help, please contact us.
If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact Fr. Bruce DeRammelaere or the staff at the Church. Our typical Funeral Masses are at 10:30 a.m.
Participation in the funeral service by you and your family and friends is strongly encouraged. Some examples of involvement are: bringing up the Offertory Gifts, reading of the old and new testament Scripture readings, preparing the Prayers of the Faithful, placing the Pall on the casket, and placing of the Christian symbols.
A Christian Vigil Service may be held the evening before the funeral. The funeral director will work with you to set a time for this. If the rosary is requested, it usually takes place in the afternoon apart from the evening parish Christian vigil Service. We also offer Visitation in the Gathering Space before the Funeral Mass.
Flower sprays are usually brought to the Church. If these are left after the funeral, the environmental committee will make use of them. Plants may be taken home with the family or left here at your discretion.
Indeed, experiencing the death of a loved one can be an emotionally difficult time. Please contact us if we can be of any help to you.
You are welcome to fill out our Funeral Information Form and bring it with you when you meet with Fr. Bruce
The parish secretary will contact the organist, and the funeral choir (volunteers from the parish) will lead the singing for the funeral Mass. Soloists, if any, are your responsibility. The hymns for the funeral may be chosen from the books in the pews of the Church to enable the congregation to sing along. A list of suggested hymns is also available. Soloists are not restricted by the Church book hymns but songs sung by soloists must be appropriate and approved by the priest celebrant.
We offer a list of funeral readings. When you meet with the pastor you will have time to choose the readings. You are welcome to view our Funeral Readings and read through them at home before you meet with Father below.
Funeral luncheons are available at St. Paul the Apostle Church and take place in Denning Hall. The family will arrange for a meal of their choice to be delivered to Denning Hall and the St Paul's funeral committee will take care of the set-up and clean-up of the space, and will provide tableware, drinks, and desserts for the guests. The committee will have 3-4 members there to help serve and take care of any needs your family may have.
Please note that we cannot offer a Luncheon after Saturday Funerals.
There is no charge for this ministry, however, families may make a donation to St. Paul's Altar & Rosary. If you have any questions or would like to join our committee, please contact Leslie Bassier 563-349-3705.
We encourage you to remember St. Paul's Church/School in any memorial fund that you might set up.
The present suggested fee for a Funeral Mass at Saint Paul Church is $505. This includes organists, cantor, altar servers, celebrant and church honorarium. Money will never prevent anyone from having a funeral Mass, this fee is by way of suggestion and most funeral homes will take care of these fees as a part of their service.
Stipends: Canon Law (Church Law) directs that the Mass stipends be given to the parish office directly. Some will be retained to be offered at St. Paul's Church, others can be sent to the Diocese for our retired priest. You can ask for certain dates that you would like to have the Masses said, the parish secretary will do their best to honor those requests.
