Robynn Garcia, her husband Andy, and their four children love St. Paul’s. Within this community they have encountered the living God, setting a new course for their lives and placing a new hope in their hearts. “Encountering Jesus has challenged us. It’s challenged us to build a stronger domestic church, to be Jesus to each other and to the people that we meet throughout our lives,” Robynn says.
When the Garcias aren’t busy with their four children (Tyler 16, Andre 14, Glenn 2, and Anthony 10 mo.) or running the family business, Red Tree Chiropractic, they can be found furthering their connection to Jesus by playing active roles in the parish. “The older boys are a part of Catholic youth activities, they participate in Mass (by singing with the choir and altar serving), and help out in the parish where needed. For Andy and I, we participate in various ministries that give us a chance to give back.” Robynn has been a member of the Worship & Prayer Commission since it was created in 2013. She also serves as a sacristan and an usher.
Robynn and Andy also share a particular passion for serving the less fortunate. Together, they coordinate the parish’s service at Café on Vine on the fourth Sunday of the month. When asked why they do it, Robynn responded, “We love this ministry. It allows us to show the love, mercy and peace that Jesus has shown us.” For her, this is simply an expression of the compassionate heart of Jesus that launches us into the world to help wounded hearts to heal, and to illuminate their way back to the loving arms of God.
The Garcias have lived long enough to know that life isn’t easy, that there are times when our need for God and others becomes very evident. This is especially true when you’re intentionally investing in your relationship with Christ. “We’ve found that when you are walking with God, life is like a roller coaster. There will be ups and there will be downs. The thing is, God has never failed us. He shows himself in big and small ways every day.”
It is this everyday faith that gets them through whatever life has to offer. In this, they are encouraged by one of their favorite Scripture passages: 2 Corinthians 5:6-7. St. Paul writes, “So we are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight.” It speaks to the challenges to life, but also the faith that gets them through. “God has a plan for each one of us,” Robynn says. “A unique purpose that only we can fulfill. Even though we may not always understand what that purpose is, we do our best to walk by faith – embracing the challenges, the lessons, and thanking God the whole way.”
